1. Adjust the tool rest so that the curved portion of the tool does not touch it while inside the vessel. In other words, the curved portion should hang over the tool rest. This ensures that the tool rest is positioned further away from the vessel than it would be with other tools. This prevents any rotational or twisting force on the tool. Make sure that the center of the cutter is in line with the center of the straight portion of the tool. When the tool is properly positioned on the tool rest, it will work just like straight shaft tools without any extra twisting felt in the handle.
